Rays of Hope for Kidney Patients as FMC Umuahia begins Kidney Transplant

There is now hope for patients with kidney- related ailments particularly those from South East and South South zones of the country as the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, Abia State, has commenced kidney transplant. The hospital has since December 2017, successfully carried out four kidney transplants. The cost of the surgeries, drugs and treatments was entirely borne by the hospital and its foreign partners. It is estimated that Kidney transplantation abroad costs about N10 million while doing same in the country may cost less than half of the stated amount. Investigations also revealed that patients with kidney related diseases top the list of Nigerians on medical trips abroad especially to India. Symptoms of Kidney disease, according to experts include: High blood pressure, changes in the quantity and frequency of passing urine, change in the colour of urine, pain in the Kidney areas, tiredness, loss of appetite, sleeping difficulties and headache. Former SA President Jacob Zuma Faces Possible Jail Time

The director of South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority says that former president  Jacob Zuma  will be prosecuted on 16 charges of corruption.   Shaun Abrahams  announced today that Zuma will face charges including fraud, corruption, racketeering and money laundering.  Zuma, 75, resigned as president last month, after he was ordered to do so by his party, the African National Congress. The charges stem from a $2.5 billion government arms purchase in 1999, when Zuma was deputy president. Zuma was elected president in 2009. LIB

British Scientist, Stephen Hawkings Dies at 76, 55 Years After He Was Given 2years to Live.

Stephen W. Hawking , the Cambridge University physicist and best-selling author who roamed the cosmos from a wheelchair, pondering the nature of gravity and the origin of the universe and becoming an emblem of human determination and curiosity, died early Wednesday at his home in Cambridge, England. He was 76. His death was confirmed by a spokesman for Cambridge University. “Not since Albert Einstein has a scientist so captured the public imagination and endeared himself to tens of millions of people around the world,” Michio Kaku,  a professor of theoretical physics at the City University of New York, said in an interview. Dr. Hawking did that largely through his book  “A Brief History of Time: From the Big Bang to Black Holes,” published in 1988. It has sold more than 10 million copies and inspired  a documentary film by Errol Morris .
